What information do I need in order to register to vote in Minnesota?
You will need to provide:
- First, Middle, and Last name as reflected in government records
- Current address (residence)
- Date of birth
- County of residence
- Phone number and email address
- Minnesota issued driver's license or ID card number, if you do not have a Minnesota driver's license or ID card, you must provide the last 4 digits of your social security number
- If you are updating your voter registration because you have changed your name, you must also provide the previous name you used to register
I'm living in a new place. Do I need to re-register to vote?
You will need to update your voter registration to reflect your new address. This would include if you have moved to a new on-campus housing assignment since you last registered.
Do I need to have an ID to vote?
If your voter registration is current and active, you do not need to bring identification to vote in Minnesota. This means you were successfully registered at least 21 days before Election Day and you have not moved or changed names since then.
If you need to register or update your registration, or you have not voted in four years or more, you will need to show proof of residence before you vote.
If you are an on-campus resident and registering to vote on election day, you can show your UCard to verify your identity. The University provides election officials with an on-campus housing list to verify residency.
